The Itinerant Climbers Collective was born out of the jungles and cliffsides of Yunnan Province, China. A friend and Squamish expat Dane Schellenberg has been silently--and diligently--developing climbing areas in and around the city of Dali (大理)for a few years, so we started filming and shooting on every trip we went on. Quickly, we decided that the climbing experiences we love to share are not limited to a single geographic place. Rather, they can take us all over the world (and maybe someday to another!).
The Collective is dedicated to showcasing the hard work of the ever-growing climbing community in China and around the world, wherever we may be. We aim to showcase experiences of the learning climber--climbers who are constantly developing their skills in pursuit of becoming stronger, more comptent, and confident practitioners of the sport.
Unlike many other sports, climbing is not performed in a stadium with thousands of fans and multitudes of photographers wielding their bazooka-looking camera barrels. The physical challenges and hardships of climbing and climbing photography often occur far from the most people's eyes, most times just specks on a cliffside as someone walks or drives by.
We hope that by sharing these photos, we might inspire more people to get out and seek more adventure.
There is always adventure out there. You just have to find it.
Peace and good climbing,
Ryder Stroud
